A jam session is a jazz invention. It’s when musicians gather to play with their peers - playing pieces they all know and showing their mettle through respectful and friendly competition with their colleagues. Of course, all of this is improvised - much like a free-wheeling conversation amongst a group of friends offering their various opinions.
Calling all musicians to come out and join in the Midnight Jazz Jam starting at 10 PM. Graham Shonwise, on alto sax, will lead Darin Nicolle, bass; Andrew Janusson, guitar and Hans Verhoeven, drums - the hosts of the jam session - and will encourage other musicians to take out their horns and join-the-jam.
You can never predict who will show-up - but the word is out that the jam will be exciting and hip ~~~
After all, this will be the After-Party following our Headliner Concert - http://www.nanaimojazzfest.ca/headliner_concert
