Jazz found acceptance in the early 20th century as a new sound and a new beat very different from classical and folk music of the previous centuries. Jazz music inspired social dancing in the new continent which were steps in a new direction away from the waltzes and polkas of Europe. Jazz was popular entertainment - but it also became an art music.
Friday night in the Dorchester Hotel’s historic “Opera Room”, Andrew Homzy’s 10-piece NOLA NightHawks plays a wide range of danceable music inspired by New Orleans jazz, Caribbean rhythms, Blues, swing, R&B, Funk and Soul. You’ll also hear some familiar songs played with a NOLA twist.
Patrons are encouraged to dress elegant and fashionable. You'll find yourself in a cabaret/dance setting.
Adventurous in your wardrobe? Take a cue from the flappers, jitterbugs, lindy hoppers and swing dancers of the past who knew that fine music, fine threads and fine partners are a lot of fun.
Because the cash bar is in an adjacent room, the hotel's license allows all ages to attend.
